At EI Williams, we design and develop a wide variety of industrial silencers and noise enclosures, among which centrifugal compressor silencers are one of the most important ones. Our professional skilled engineers have in-depth knowledge and expertise in designing and building the highest quality, reliable centrifugal silencers for compressors, thus, reducing pulsation and noise to a significant level. Our 20 years of professional experience and commitment to innovation has helped us specialize in manufacturing CL Series and CCS Series of centrifugal compressor silencers.
Why Centrifugal Compressor Silencers are Important?
Centrifugal compressors are excessively noisy and produce destructive pulsation that is harmful to the operating personnel, environment, and the equipment as well. Similar to a pump raising the pressure on a liquid, a centrifugal compressor raises the gas or air pressure significantly, where the noise is primarily produced by drastic blade-tip turbulence, which is a specific function of speed, horsepower, number and type of blades, number of stages of compression, piping velocities, etc.
The high speed rotation of the impellers or compressor vanes generates excessive noise that primarily comprises of “discrete tones interspersed over a broadband frequency spectrum of lesser intensity.’ The highest amplitude occurs when the blade passes frequency and second harmonic. The excessive high frequency noise generated is significant in an audible range and requires instant treatment to achieve enhanced noise control.
Centrifugal Compressor Silencers:
Centrifugal compressor silencers manufactured by EI Williams are basically an absorptive type of silencers, which are a low pressure drop, high frequency attenuator. The equipment depends on the sound absorbing material to seamlessly dissipate acoustical energy, and transform it into heat energy, thus, reducing self generated noise and destructive pulsation. At the same time, the silencers are built on straight through designs. It is important to install centrifugal compressor silencers at close proximity to the compressor, thus, preventing excessive noise and pulse generated through pip radiation.
Silencer Size:
Centrifugal compressor silencers from EI Williams are generally sized for 5000 to 5500 FPM velocity, and does not exceed 7500 FPM velocity, thus, preventing excessive equipment generated noise and significant aerodynamic noise generation. The silencers are selected on the basis of silencing criteria determined for specific applications and maximum allowable pressure drop at rated flow.
Design and Construction:
The silencer uses a perforated tube bounded by acoustic absorption materials at a controlled density, thus achieving a standard silencing. The exterior shell retains the acoustical pack and reflects back the noise into the pack to achieve superior noise reduction. EI Williams provides effective silencer designs that ensure long service life and low pressure drop that can be installed in vertical or horizontal position.
The centrifugal compressor silencers manufactured by EI Williams are built from all welded plate steel and sheet, with absorption materials essential for operating conditions. The flanges can be drilled to match the American Standard Flanges range of 125lb. The exterior surfaces are prime coated, while special paints, mounting brackets, and side connections are available at extra cost.
